Frequently Asked Questions About Home Building and Renovation in Kingston

Thinking about building, renovating, or upgrading your home in Kingston or the surrounding areas? You're not the only one with questions, and we’re here with straight answers. Here are the most common things homeowners ask us before starting a project.

  • Yes. Paradise Construction is licensed by the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) and enrolled with Tarion, Ontario’s new home warranty administrator. All our new builds come with consumer protection under the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act.

Being a Tarion-registered builder means we follow official licensing procedures, meet strict code standards, and enroll each home in a warranty plan as required by law.

  • We provide a one-year warranty on our workmanship from the installation completion date. That covers any defects due to our construction practices.

Equipment and material warranties are handled directly through the manufacturers. Any sub-trades also carry their own warranties. If something goes wrong, we'll help coordinate the claim because building it right includes supporting it after the build.

  • Book a call with our team. Share the details you have, square footage, project type, inspirations or concerns, and we’ll schedule a site visit. From there, we’ll walk it out together and show you how Paradise simplifies the build process while respecting your budget and vision.

  • Building permit requirements can be different depending on the municipality in which you are located.

Each municipality has its building department that oversees construction practices in its respective area.

Paradise Construction has extensive experience working in all of the municipalities in Kingston and the surrounding area. We know the building departments and the building inspectors, and we work closely with them to ensure all of our projects are built properly, safely, and in compliance with the local building code requirements in that area.

Here are the links to the Building Department websites for Kingston and the surrounding area. You should be able to find the answers to your questions here. If you can’t find the information you are looking for on the websites below, please reach out to us. We would be happy to help.

  • A green build goes beyond what you see on the surface. It starts with lot placement and building orientation (that’s hot in passive solar design), uses smart materials and take-offs to reduce waste, and tight envelope systems to boost energy efficiency.

At Paradise, we separate and recycle construction waste, choose low-impact materials and systems, and embrace building methods that reduce long-term energy use and waste, all because it affects your comfort, your running costs, and the planet. Read our full blog.

  • Start by asking the right questions. Make sure they’re licensed, insured, and WSIB-compliant. Ask about their experience on similar builds, request customer references, and make sure they offer a clear written contract with timelines and warranty terms.

Trust the ones who answer confidently and clearly. Professionals stand by their work. And if you ever feel uneasy about a builder’s approach, keep looking. You'll want someone who treats your project like their own. Read our full blog.
